Zero Punctuation - Demon Thing

Fun With Cover Letters

So, I'm applying for work at a lot of different places. Sometimes, these job postings are well above my pay grade and skillset, but I'm still applying for them. Figure that I might as well, as they might promote a junior person to the post and find themselves in need of someone in my range. Anyway.

Applied for this job today for a company that's sure to be getting lots of applicants. Decided to choose a slightly different route than the typical cover letter. Given that my rebranding for my animation side is RadioactiveLizard.com, I thought I'd play with that.

Names removed to protect my ass.

Hi! You may have heard of me. I destroyed Tokyo during the 1950s and somehow became a beloved figure in Japanese culture for many years, before a debacle with Matthew Broderick in the late 1990s killed my career. Forced into hiding, I changed my name and underwent significant experimental surgery to change my appearance, causing my finances to dwindle to nearly nothing. Since crushing buildings underfoot and battling giant sea lobsters doesn't have much transferrable job skills, I went to school and became a character animator.

As a long time fan of the work of [COMPANY], I was most pleased to see that there was a position for one such as myself within your organization. Having worked extensively in both short film animation and game production teams in college, I learned how to communicate effectively with art directors without shrieking and throwing busses, all while making sure I was always on time with the work I had been assigned. I have become exceptionally well versed in Autodesk Maya and the principles of animation, and feel that, despite the loss of my tail for counterbalance, that I have grasped the intricacies of human movement.

Of course, I would love to hear from you regarding the position and how I can help make your next project as awesome as possible. My contact information is below, as is a link to my website with my demo reel and additional portfolio material.

I hope to hear from you soon. I promise not to melt the phone with my fire breath. Again.

We'll see how it goes. :3
